Lexicon of Tea Terms

Our wide range of outstanding quality teas draws on a variety of leaves, all carefully picked in their prime. The leaves are graded to indicate their characteristics of size and style as follows:

Broken - This refers to a grade of leaf smaller than Pekoe.

Flowery - This is similar to Tippy, but there is a marginally lower tip content.

Golden - This refers to the colour of the tip content present in the tea.

Orange - This often is used with the word Pekoe as a size term to denote a large leaf type.

Pekoe - This is a medium leaf size, smaller than that of Orange Pekoe.

Tippy - This describes teas containing a noticeable amount of tips.

The above terms are frequently found in combinations of two or more to give a precise explanation of leaf size and style.

Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe I (FTGFOP I) - This is a superior quality large leaf tea with a substantial number of golden colored tips.

Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe (GFOP) - This is similar to FTGFOP I, but it contains fewer tips.

Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP) - This refers to a leaf grade smaller than Orange Pekoe or Pekoe.
